Maplewood at Newtown Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the right time to move to a senior community?
The best time to make the move to an assisted living community is before your loved one has something happen that ultimately forces a quick move. Doing research and starting to think about senior living community options before the need arises can help you avoid having to make a move hastily.

What if I/my parent have a home to sell?
We're here to help you navigate that road as smoothly as possible. We will work with local real estate agents, professional referral sources, moving companies, estate planners, etc., who will be able to assist you and answer your questions and concerns about the sale of your home.

What services are included in the monthly rental fee?
Our communities include in their monthly rental fee a wide variety of services including farm fresh dining experiences, weekly housekeeping, access to social and cultural enrichment opportunities, scheduled local transportation to doctor's appointments and outings, utilities such as electricity, hot water, heating and air conditioning. Services for assistance with daily activities – such as grooming, bathing, and dressing and medication oversight – are provided at an extra fee for service, depending upon the level of care the resident requires

How are Maplewood assisted living and memory care communities different from other senior living communities?
While some assisted living communities are prefabricated to conform to a big corporate brand, Maplewood breaks the mold and takes its inspiration from the local community. Each property is purposely designed to have a distinct look, feel and personality. Our lobbies, gathering spaces and apartments reflect the unique spirit and aesthetic of the region. Our chefs are passionate about using local ingredients to bring farm fresh flavor to every breakfast, lunch and dinner. We believe that by thinking and acting locally, we help foster a lifestyle that's healthier, more meaningful and closer to home.

For added peace of mind, we are the only assisted living communities in Connecticut offering on-site licensed nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What types of services do Maplewood communities offer?
Our communities offer a wide range of services. They include:

Vistas™: Our premier assisted living program, offering assistance for those needing an extra hand. This may include help with the activities of daily living, such as grooming, dressing and bathing. Medication oversight may be provided if needed.

Tides™: For residents showing early signs of memory loss, this program allows them to live a life of supported independence in a safe and secure environment.

Currents™: Maplewood residents with more advanced levels of memory loss are able to enjoy life to the fullest.

What types of activities are offered at Maplewood assisted living and memory care communities?
Our communities offer a wide array of daily and evening social and cultural enrichment events, with both on and off-site excursions. They often include: musical programs, poetry groups, book clubs, garden clubs, current events club, personalized fitness, intergenerational programs with children, card games, movies in our own in-house theater, outings to theater productions, restaurants and sporting events, religious programs, and much more.

What is Respite Care?
Respite care is a short-term stay. Respite is generally a minimum of a 4 week stay at the community while a resident's loved one or family goes out of town or may need a break from being a full-time caregiver. Short-term stays are also a great way for residents to get the extra care and help needed while recovering from surgery or illness.
